2022 Oakley Pedalers Golden Spoke Awards – Sat 25 Feb 2023

 

 

The Golden Spoke awards are accolades bestowed by the Oakley Pedalers Award committee in recognition of the most outstanding achievements and contributions by club members.  The Club want to recognise those members that embody the spirit and comradery of a true Oakley Pedaler. 

What you can expect on the night.

Drinks reception – a chance to socialise and network around the bar with fellow OP members and see what they really look like when not in lycra and crash helmet.
Dinner – a buffet meal followed by cake baked by 2022 Baker of The Year Winner, Tim Goodwin.
Award presentations – what you’ve all been waiting for!

Most Improved Rider 2022:
As voted for by Committee 

This award will be chosen by our expert panel, and it will be awarded to a rider who has made great strides forward in the past 12 months, achieving success and advancement in their chosen discipline. This category recognises the work and relentless training a rider has dedicated to improving their cycling technique and overall fitness. Some riders will have natural ability and skills whilst others will have to work super hard to see similar improvement which will also be considered by the panel.

Epic Ride Of the Year 2022

This award will showcase a standout event that has taken place in the last 12 months. This event can be big or small, but what matters is that it has significantly showcased the talents of an OP member. We have been reviewing member Strava logs an have identified a few events worthy of nomination in this category. In is category we found some of the craziest, mammoth events that our OP members undertook in 2022 and the nominations highlight a few of those amazing challenges.

Virtual Rider of the Year 

During the off season months it can be challenging to stay motivated and so in recognition of the Virtual Worriers, we pay our respects to the club member that helps to arrange virtual rides and provides enthusiasm and encourage in making indoor training more fun for everyone.

Road Side Hero
There are many RSH in the Oakley Pedalers, but this year we single out a few key members that have embodied the essence of the clubs core values that include taking care of the group, assisting with punctures and mechanicals, and offering to help fellow random cyclists that require roadside assistance.

Off Road Rider Of The Year
As the club embraces more off road and gravel rides this award recognises the technical skill attributed to riding a bike under harsh and muddy off road conditions.

Recreational Cycling Award
This will be awarded to an individual, who has made a large impact in their area over the past year, from getting new to cycling members involved, to encouraging cycling veterans to get back on their bikes. The winner of this coveted prize will have dedicated their time to organising events and publishing routes. This award will recognise the great work going on in the social  space of our cycling community, .

Club Member of The Year
This award will recognise a standout member who has continually gone above and beyond to make our cycling community a better place. Whether it’s a commissaire who makes riding both fun and fair, an event organiser who puts on more rides, or routes than anyone else, or simply a friendly face who makes your cycling experience a positive one come rain or shine, we want to recognise the unsung heroes in our cycling community. The members nominated stand out for their commitment to club cycling and are true ambassadors for the club.   

  • Winner: Graeme Hull: For his outstanding work on organising the Oakley Pedalers treasure hunt in 2022
