Away Day: The Purbecks
2 July, 2022 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
£2.00Return to the Purbecks
The Isle of Purbeck is a beautiful peninsula in the county of Dorset, surrounded by the English Channel on one side and the river Frome and Poole Harbour on the other. Here is where the Jurassic Coast starts with its abrupt cliffs and rock formations and a backdrop of beautiful scenery and mostly blues skies. It will be a real pleasure for the Oakley Pedalers to once again have the opportunity to ride these super scenic roads on our summer Away Day on Saturday 2nd July 2022.
Unlike last years ride which had poor weather conditions, this year the weather is 100% guaranteed promised to be wall to wall sunshine so be sure to pack your lightest summer bike and factor 50 sun cream.
Routes
For our social riders a relaxed 56 mile route is planned with plenty of opportunities for coffee stop and for the speedy advanced, and intermediate riders, a slightly longer, more hilly route is planned. Both options offer stunning views and plenty of photo opportunities, so you will be sure to have an amazing day on the bike.
Ferry: We aim to catch the 9:20am. Please have £2.00 cash with you to purchase your return ticket.
If you miss the 9:20 we can meet up at the first coffee stop at 18 mile, The Cake House, East Creech Farm.

Coffee Stops:
First stop at 18 mile, The Cake House, East Creech Farm, East Creech, Wareham, Dorset, BH20 5AP.
A great selection of snacks, including homemade cakes, sandwiches toasties. Lots of outdoor seating and a safe place to park our bikes.
This first stop is intended as a “splash and dash” stop, so just order drinks and cake, or snack so that we can be on our way within 30 minutes.
Second stop at 41 miles at the The Dovecote Cafe, The Walled Garden, Moreton, DT2 8RG.
We stopped here last year and the food and service was very good.
This stop will be our main food stop so we will be here be for around 1 hour before we trek back to Sandbanks.
We have a third option in case the Dovecote is too busy which is the Orchard Cafe, Holme for Gardens, West Holme, Wareham, BH26 6AQ
Car Parking:
There are plenty of places to park in the local area so pick a spot that meets your budget. Lots of choices can be found at Parkopedia, but there is also free parking on many of the side streets.
Some people previously used the main car park on Banks Road, opposite CAFF, by the roundabout. Although a bit pricy (£17.80 per day), it is safe and convenient and has toilets and shower on site also.
Be sure to allow enough time to park up and cycle down to the chain ferry for 9:20 crossing.
This event is open to all Oakley Pedalers members.
Away Day events are offered up in addition to the standard Saturday rides which are still available to ride.
